Meadowsweet Inn for Dogs offers a unique overnight boarding experience for dogs and it has a new daycare building.

Catering to a small group of dogs in a home setting, Meadowsweet Inn for Dogs found a niche unique to any other dog boarding and doggy daycare business in the area and takes pride in their open concept business model.

“Leaving your dog with us is like leaving your dog at a friend’s house,” says Robin Beavis, owner of Meadowsweet Inn for Dogs.

Located in Newcastle, Meadowsweet has specialized in open concept dog boarding and doggy daycare since 2008. The space designed for the boarding dogs is located right in the owner’s home and is a unique, home environment for family dogs that are friendly and well socialized. Dogs spend the day mingling with other friendly dogs and people. At bedtime, Robin and her family are always home and dogs sleep slumber-party style together. Large crates are available only for those that are used to being crated at bedtime, typically puppies.

“People wanted a home experience for their dogs while they traveled but nothing locally existed,” says Beavis. “Dog owners were accustomed to boarding facilities that didn’t allow their dog to socialize. Their dog would spend the majority of the day isolated from people and other dogs. Meadowsweet is very different.”

After graduating from college, earning a degree in psychology and elementary education, Beavis apprenticed at a large boarding facility in central Maine. At the larger facility Robin learned how to work with large packs of dogs. Several years later when it was time to open her own business she decided to take a “less is more” approach. “It was very important to me to offer a home experience for friendly dogs but to keep the number of dogs less than other boarding businesses. I didn’t want to cram them in just to make a profit. I wanted each dog to feel comfortable staying with us and for my family to enjoy each guest while they were with us.”

Beavis feels this approach is the reason why dogs are happy to return to Meadowsweet time and time again. In spring of 2023 Meadowsweet opened a separate building for doggy daycare. The daycare building called, The Cottage, is located on the same property. It has everything a daycare dog needs with a large fenced in area and a day filled with fun, socialization, exercise and love. Daycare is the perfect option for working families and/or young dogs in need of socialization and exercise.
