The Boothbay Region YMCA Dolphins swim team hosted the Sanford Titans for their fourth meet of the season on Saturday, Jan. 10. Great teamwork and personal best times helped the Dolphins boys team edge out the Titans for the win.

Both the girls and boys teams continued to shave away lots of time and post personal best times. Meghan Clifford knocked off 32.4 seconds in her 100 free to capture third place and Hannah Hills took off 36.54 seconds for third place in her 50 free. Piper Carlton shaved 2.73 seconds for first place finish in the 50 free and more than 10 seconds to win first place in the 100 IM. Catherine Clifford followed up in second place and Hannah Hills in third for a 1, 2, 3 finish.

Hannah Witwicki captured second place in shaving almost 7 seconds off her previous best. Madison Phelps brought her time down over 4 seconds to score some points for her team in the 50 breast and Zoe Eason shaved 3.09 seconds for a first place win in the 100 IM and a second place finish in the 100 free. YuJi Smith smiled the whole way in taking off almost 4 seconds in her 50 backstroke.

Lincoln Hamblett and Emma Pearce made the 50 free a great race with first and second place finishes with a personal best for Lincoln just under 30 seconds at 29.99. Sydney Blake captured three points in the 50 back and helped her relay garner second place for the 200 medley by clipping off 3.55 seconds in her swim.

The boys team had a number of personal best swims to beat the Titans. Jackson Lorrain sheared nearly 13 seconds in his 100 IM for third place and chipped off three seconds in his 50 back for second. Younger brother Wyatt cut six full seconds for second place in the 25 breast. Marlowe Recoing, a new swimmer to the team this year, posted the fastest time to win first place in the 50 back, followed closely by Jackson Lorrain for second. Rowan Kristan completed his first ever 500 free with a winning time of 6:42.7 for a second place finish.

Twelve points were won in the 100 IM with three personal best times led by Ben Pearce, Chris Hamblett and Lucas Hardwick for a 1, 2, 4 finish. Team members pushed each other again down the lanes for the 50 breast, with only .12 seconds separating Hardwick’s first place from Pearce’s second place finish. The evidence of hard practicing showed with other personal best times posted by Jameson Labrecque (- 9.64) and Tim Norton (-6.72) in each of their 100 free.

Coaches and parents couldn’t have been more pleased with the solid performances and the obvious team camaraderie at the meet.  

The boys and girls teams will go on to chase their own times (and their opponents) Saturday, Jan. 24 in Portland.
