First ever family One Design 'Sail' August 10
All Boothbay Harbor One Design owners, family and friends are invited to a first ever Family One Design "Sail" (not a race) and Ice Cream Social to be held Saturday, August 10 at Tumbler Buoy at 1 p.m., and at 3 p.m. at the Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club.
The concept is to bring together those folks who love the Boothbay Harbor One Design a unique class of sailboat designed many years ago by Gjerd Hendel and built in both wood and fiberglass versions. You do not have to be a member of the Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club to participate.
The purpose of this event is to gather together any or all Boothbay Harbor One Design boats in the area, for an afternoon of camaraderie with other One Design owners. There have been 55 of these boats built, some now in other locations, some extinct, some day sailors, some racers. The first annual Family sail together of this beautiful boat is designed to afford meeting each other with the common interest of enjoying the 75-year-old boat we love to sail.
The 1 p.m. Tumbler meeting will allow participants to get instructions for a "family scavenger hunt." There will be three or four orange, red and or yellow tetras scattered across the harbor, each with a bag of numbers attached.
Each boat takes numbers from each tetra equal to the number of crew on the boat. There will be a time limit to be at the BHYC by 3 p.m. After the sail, folks will tie up their boats and join together for awards for your numbers and an ice cream social for all. The bar will be open for adults. Numbers will be drawn from a hat to determine winners of family oriented prizes.
Please RSVP to Debbie Swan at 207-633-3848 or dvswan@cox.net so we can have some idea how many there will be.
