Freeport overwhelms Boothbay 41-8 in Class E football opener
The Boothbay football team’s 10-game unbeaten streak came to a grinding halt Aug. 31 as Freeport, aided by three Seahawk turnovers, scored 28 unanswered points en route to a 41-8 victory.
Freeport scored two first quarter touchdowns, a 43-yard run and a 15-yard pass, for a 12-0 first quarter lead. In the second quarter, Freeport ran for two more touchdowns rushing out to a 28-0 lead.
Boothbay scored its only touchdown late in the second quarter. Quarterback Hunter Crocker connected with wide receiver Michael Hollowell on a 90-yard touchdown pass. Crocker connected on a two-yard pass to Nicholas Morley for a two-point conversion.
This is Freeport’s first season in Class E, a developmental league for schools with small enrollments and football rosters. Last season, Freeport competed in Class C. This is Boothbay’s second season in Class E. Freeport is 1-0. Boothbay is 0-1.
The Seahawks host Class C Belfast at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7 at Sherman Field.
