Giving a good fight
The Lady Seahawks soccer season opened with an away game against Dirigo's Lady Cougars, on August 31. The Cougars are a strong team and won the game 5-0. Boothbay had only 4 shots on goal because of Dirigo’s tight defense.
“Shots were taken on goal by Dana Greenleaf and Abby McLellan, but neither were able to hit the net. Dirigo came out strong defeating Boothbay’s midfield and defense. And, Nell Anthony, one of our star players, was injured early in the game,” Coach Kate Hossler said.
Goalie Mikayla McFetridge had 17 saves; Cougar goalie N. Deroche had four saves. Boothbay had four shots on goal, Dirigo had 22.
Natalie Bolduc scored four goals for Dirigo and Bryce Parent scored one.
Carrabec
On Labor Day, September 3, the Seahawks lost to Carrabec's Lady Cobras in a home game, 3-1. McLellan scored Boothbay's only goal and the Cobras scored two of their three goals in the first half.
Defensively, the Seahawks had a slow start, but by the second half, they played stronger, but could not stay in control of the ball.
“Mariah Carriera and Mikayla McFetridge were both forces to be reckoned with on defense and in the goal,” Hossler said.
Boothbay had 14 shots on goal, Carrabec had 17; McFetridge had 14 saves and Cobra goalie Macy Welch had 13.
Shooting on goal for Boothbay: McLellan, Dana Greenleaf, Courtney Brewer, Sarah Durgan, Anna Baumm and Monique Bertin.
