Golf association names Watson senior player of the year
Boothbay Harbor's Lowell Watson had a very good year on the links in 2012. So good, he won the 2012 Maine State Golf Association's Senior Player of the Year Award.
Watson, who played in 23 senior and non-senior events, won 14 events, was runner-up six times and was second runner-up twice.
The award is based on point totals throughout the Maine golfing season and Watson, who is a member of the Portland Country Club, beat out all players in Maine who are 55 years old and older.
His 522 points were enough to defeat perennial Maine State Open champion Mark Plummer of the Augusta Country Club, who finished second with 445 points.
Watson is also a former winner and 2012 runner-up in the Maine Senior Amateur where he lost to Plummer by one stroke, 147-148. He is also one of 17 directors of the Maine State Golf Association.
