Honor Essay by Glory Blethen
Good afternoon.
I first would like to give some thank yous. Mr. Crocker and Mrs. Campbell. I cannot thank you both enough for the endless amount of time, effort, and devotion you have put into our class. Whether it was early meetings with Ben and I, or creating a whole months worth of fun in May, or recreating Fishermen's Festival for us, your care and love for our class does not go unnoticed.
Secondly, I want to thank the teachers at BRHS. I appreciate all you have done for us over our four years here. This past year has been extremely hard and as much as the students and our class have had to adjust you have all had to adjust times 10. You made it your mission to make sure we were supported and succeeding. So thank you.
Lastly, I want to thank the bus drivers, janitor staff, office ladies and lunch ladies at BRHS. I know the Class of 2021 appreciates as we walk through the lobby doors each morning we are greeted with a smile and an offer of a cinnamon roll or breakfast sandwich from our lunch ladies. Or at lunch when everyone is offered food and some more than others love it so much they go for seconds, maybe even thirds, I am looking at you Sullivan. I want to thank the janitors for keeping our school clean and healthy. Without you we wouldn’t have had the luxury, yes I said the luxury, of attending school this year. The bus drivers for cleaning the buses before and after we get off. For doing multiple trips for the elementary and high school. The office ladies for always showing school spirit and supporting our class. Please give them all a round of applause.
Family. The Class of 2021 is one big family. I know when we all think family we think same blood. But I think a family is a group of people who inspire each other, spend time together, love one another, and are connected by constant support. This is the Class of 2021, a family. Most of our class went to pre-school together and essentially grew up together. We love each other, sometimes we hate each other, sometimes we fight, sometimes we laugh and cry, but at the end of the day we are a family.
So let me introduce you to some of the characters in our family. You know the moms, the siblings, the uncle and aunts. To kick it off we have the first born child. Of course the favorite, the teacher's pet, the first to raise their hand, the one that leads by example. Maybe even the valedictorian, Kylie. Then we have the middle child, the rebellious ones in the group. The ones to be tardy to school (or graduation), the ones that “YOLO” it, the one that resents the teacher's pet, and the ones that don’t always get away with much. Almost like every time they come to school they miss the bell by just one minute, I’m not talking about you, Ryan. Which leads me to the last child … the youngest. The one that does get away with it because they are the youngest. The loud ones, the rowdy of the bunch, but always are seen as the cute angels. I’m looking at the youngest one in the class, Isabel.
Parents of our class. The peacemakers, leaders, keeps the family functioning, and even got voted for Class President; Ben you picking this up? Now onto the bloodline. The unpredictable and entertaining cousin. You can hear him talking about something from around the hall, and always has something funny to say. Yes, Isaac that’s you. The sweet grandma, who always bakes the best cookies, has a sweet soul, but can show a little sass when need be, her name is Emma Brewer. Lastly, we of course have the laid back uncle that everyone loves that’s always there but doesn’t speak often. When he does you will be in for a laugh. And has fire shoe game. Deakon no wonder you were voted for best shoe game in our class.
Our class is made up of a lot of different personalities and characters, I am incredibly thankful to have grown up with all of you. Today is filled with a lot of emotions. But I want you all to take a second and look around. Everyone here is here for us. Our supporters, friends, and family. This family and community will forever be filled with Seahawk pride and memories. We are the seniors who sit here ready to graduate now. Eager to look forward. But before we look forward we must look back and remember who got us here and who have been with us.
Family. The Boothbay community, our mentors, parents and each other. Family. A group of people who inspire each other, spend time together, love one another, and are connected by constant support … the Class of 2021.
Thank you.
