Journey ‘Into The Woods’ at the Boothbay Playhouse
All of your favorite fairy tales will come to life when the Boothbay Playhouse performs the Tony Award winning musical, “Into the Woods.” The brainchild of songwriting genius Stephen Sondheim, “Into the Woods” weaves the paths of familiar fairy tale characters with new personalities as they all journey into the woods for different purposes.
When a baker and his wife learn they've been cursed with childlessness by the witch next door, they embark on a quest for the special objects required to break the spell, meeting up with a cast of well-known characters including Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel and Jack (of giant-killing fame).
The show takes the Grimm Brothers’ fairy tales and spins them on their head. The first act follows the traditional tales that we are all familiar with while the second act explores what happens after the “happily ever after.” It takes a sobering look at the consequences of the characters' wishes and quests, and gives new meaning to the phrase “be careful what you wish for.”
The Boothbay Playhouse production is directed by Ginny Bishop and Emily Mirabile. The cast stars Joel Biron (The Baker), Victoria Hamilton (The Baker’s Wife), Emily Mirabile (The Witch), Devin Domeyer (Cinderella), Landon Sholar (Cinderella's Prince), Sophia Thayer (Little Red), Michael Burrell (Jack), Erin Blomquist (Jack's Mother), Kelsey Krull (Rapunzel), Robo Bishop (Rapunzel's Prince), Nick Azzaretti (The Mysterious Man), Joe McGrann (The Narrator), Jake Duvall-Early (The Steward), Suzanne Jones (Cinderella's Mother), Donna Griffin (Cinderella's Stepmother), Jane Bertelsen (Florinda), Aspen Jones (Lucinda), Dean Domeyer (Cinderella's Father), Nick Mirabile (Granny), Kelly Sherwood (The Giant's Voice), Caroline Hunt and Genevieve Taylor (Snow White) and Taylor Fish and Noelle Timberlake (Sleeping Beauty).
