Juniper Hill School holds open houses, tours

Thu, 02/27/2014 - 4:00pm

Juniper Hill School will host an open house and tours on Saturday, March 8 from 10 a.m. to noon. This is a family-friendly event, open to anyone who is interested in learning more about the school and our programs. All community members are welcome to attend. Faculty, current families and board members will be present to answer questions and share their experiences.
Juniper Hill School for Place-Based Education in Alna is one of the first of its kind: a school that connects children to themselves, to each other, and to their communities through studying both natural and human environments. The outdoors serves as the primary classroom and a springboard for a curriculum that synthesizes the best of 20th century progressive education, with a 21st century place-based approach.
Juniper Hill School is a place-based, pre- and elementary school, founded by Director Anne Stires in 2011. The school currently serves 3-9-year-olds (pre-K through third grade). They have been adding a grade each year, with plans to culminate in a pre-K through eighth grade school.
Currently enrolling for all programs for fall 2014:

  • Full-time Place-Based Elementary School, first and second grade (6-8 years old) and third and fourth grade classes (8-10 years old)
  • 3-day and 5-day Nature Preschool and Forest Kindergarten class (4-6 years old)
  • Part-Day Nature Immersion Program (3-5 years old)

Space is limited.
Utilizing integrated curriculum, immersion in the natural world and social understanding, Juniper Hill School strives to create happier, healthier and smarter children, who become masters of their own learning and actively help to make their community, and the world, a better place.
