JV Seahawks keep winning
The Boothbay Region High School junior varsity boys basketball team, as of January 28, were 11-1 on the season. The team is comprised of eight freshmen and five sophomores.
During the past week, the team won all three of its games; 65-43 over Mt. Abram, 54-49 over Lisbon and 57-40 over Dirigo. Against Mt. Abram, Julian Aponte led Boothbay with 15 points while Nick Gorey pitched in with 12. At Lisbon, Nick Kilgus led the Seahawks with 19 points and Aaron Dickinson pitched in with 11.
At home against rival Dirigo on January 25, Boothbay once again relied on the pressure defense to create havoc and multiple turnovers resulting in an early 20 -7 lead after one quarter. Each team member provided aggressive defensive pressure never allowing Dirigo the opportunity to get into a rhythm. As a result a 20-point cushion was maintained and Boothbay prevailed. Leading the scoring once again was Kilgus with 14 and Aponte had 12.
“The boys work very hard, relying on pressure defense to key a strong transition game,” said veteran coach Mark Gosselin. “We have shown improvement as the year has gone on and are hopeful to continue to improve as the year comes to a close and in the off-season.”
