Lady Seahawks go to playoffs
The Lady Seahawks tennis team has ended the regular season with an 8-4 record, earning them fifth place in the Heal point standings and qualifying them for the playoffs. The team will face St. Dominic Academy in an away match on May 30.
Coach Alex Arsenault said the team had a good season, beating strong teams like Winthrop and St. Dom's.
Their biggest challenge of the season was actually created by Arsenault – unintentionally.
“I did it to get ready for Winthrop,” Arsenault said. “We lost two seniors last year, so I changed the line up and moved everyone up two places. They had to get used to playing in different positions, but they handled it pretty well.”
Arsenault said the team played well; and when they did lose, it was by one contest – with the exception of Hall-Dale (4-1).
“We haven't gotten blown out in any match,” Arsenault said. “And they have been long, tight matches. A lot of the freshmen have had a lot of confidence – in high pressure situations. They've handed it very well.
“This group has handled everything very well,” Arsenault said. “It will be interesting to see how they play in the playoffs. If we can work hard the next week and a half, we could make a serious run. This week we'll work on moves to get better and then next week we'll go over strategy to get ready for St. Dom's.”
