Last annual meeting
Amy Goodwin welcomed members to the annual meeting for the last time as the Commodore on August 25, 2012. Giving a review of her year as Commodore brought back many fond memories of a great year for the members attending. Current officers and committees gave reports and once again the DEYC had a great boating and party season. The election of new officers and board members took place.
Our incoming new bridge: Com. Matt Carlson, V/C Skip Williams, R/C David Quest and new board members, James Hunton, P/C Joe Blake and Mac Gray were all sworn in by P/C Woody Thompson. Bridge flags were presented to all outgoing and incoming officers.
Commodore Carlson then took over the meeting by thanking Amy and Dusty for a great year and presenting them with outgoing gifts. He then announced George Hamilton as the new Fleet Captain, and Dave Quist presented him with the F/C flag and hat. Carlson reviewed his plans for the upcoming year with great excitement.
Once again our Christmas party will be in Freeport at the Hilton Gardens, and we will be returning to DiMillo's in Portland for the Commodores Luncheon. We are all looking forward to the upcoming Haul Out Party, ski weekend and winter gatherings at the homes of our members here in Maine and sunny Florida.
Down East Yacht Club held its annual Haul Out Party September 15, once again hosted by the Blake family at Blake's Boatyard in West Boothbay Harbor. The weather was perfect as was the attendance.
Over 180 members and guest enjoyed a fabulous spread of food by Seacoast Catering. Many food stations and the chowder station were enjoyed by all. The DEYC Woody Wagon was well stock with refreshments by the new V/C Skip Williams and his wife, Jane. New stock in the Ships Store, made an additional treat for some, as R/C David Quist and his wife Genie help members stock up on new things for the coming season.
Before the Haul Out Party, a Board Meeting was held by Carlson. During the party Matt announced some of the mission of the new bridge for the upcoming year. F/C George Hamilton has a great start on next year’s cruise, revisiting some old favorite places we all love.
We were reminded to keep in touch with friends by attending the winter gatherings at the homes of our members during the off season. A great Christmas party has been planned for 2012 to end the year.
The annual picture was taken of the P/C in attendance, and a new twist, a picture of the spouses was taken to honor all the work that they have contributed over the years. Good-byes were said as the party came to an end, for those who will be heading south to become snowbirds, have a great winter. For those who will stay to enjoy the winter in Maine, see you at the next party.
