LCDC welcomes new campaign manager, opens campaign office

The Lincoln County Democratic Committee (LCDC) has tapped Stephen Wicks, Ph.D. to be the campaign manager for the 2024 election season.

Wicks, a lifelong progressive, will work out of LCDC’s new campaign office at 27 River Road, Newcastle. More than 60 people attended a recent open house at the headquarters, where Wicks was officially announced as the campaign manager.

The office is currently open Monday and Tuesday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., and Wednesday through Friday from 1-5 p.m. The public hours will be extended to full days, including weekend hours, in the coming weeks.

Wicks has previously served on the LCDC messaging team, and the Damariscotta Broadband Committee, and has a long history of political and science-based climate advocacy.

“Stephen brings a wealth of experience and energy to our campaign this year,” said Kelli Whitlock Burton, LCDC chair. “His deep love of our country and Lincoln County and his passion for democracy have inspired all of us and we look forward to a successful campaign.”

In addition to his advocacy, Wicks, a former biology professor at Boston College, has consulted for government agencies, disease-oriented nonprofits, and pharmaceutical sector companies for more than a decade, leading teams of scientists in addressing data-related needs for these organizations.

“I have come to realize that regardless of what issue is closest to your heart—be it social and environmental justice, climate change, rights and freedoms, or something else—the most effective way to facilitate change is to leverage the political process and get involved,” said Wicks. “I am thrilled to be able to apply my organizing and management experience to the 2024 election season with the Lincoln County Democrats!”

Formally trained as a neuroscientist and geneticist, Wicks most recently worked professionally as a data science consultant, and in doing so developed the skills to analyze climate data as a hobby. He enjoys skiing with his son, exploring Maine’s nooks with his wife, is an occasional runner, and like everyone else, is thinking about writing a book or two someday.

This year’s election includes races for 11 county and state offices that represent Lincoln County towns, as well as national contests for the presidency, a U.S. Senate seat, and Maine's 1st Congressional District representative.
