Legion’s Community Yard Sale helps scholarship fund
American Legion Post 36’s Henry Rowe Scholarship Fund got a boost following the Post’s Community Yard Sale held on the Boothbay Common Saturday, Aug. 5.
“It went pretty well,” said Post Commander Robin Ford. “We brought in between $2,400 and $2,500 for the scholarship fund.”
People arrived early for the 8 a.m. start and Legion member Joel Morley began taking in sales at the cashier table. Community members who participated in the event were also busy selling their offerings. Breakfast sandwiches, coffee and more were being sold from the Common gazebo by members of the Post Auxiliary. Later, hamburgers and hot dogs, along with cold drinks, were sold before the event ended at 1 p.m. Despite the rain on Friday night, the grounds were not too wet as people looked at and purchased merchandise.
“This is a really nice community event,” said Julie Roberts, president of the Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. “It is nice to see so many people out and about.”
