Lions beat Seahawks and Eagles
On Friday, Jan. 24, the Boothbay Region High School Seahawks and Lincoln Academy Eagles faced off against the Belfast High Lions in their third away meet of the year.
The Lions took first in 20 out of 23 events, while the Eagles took first in the remaining three. The Seahawks were unable to score a first place win, but did place second in 10 events and 3rd in seven.
Second places went to the Girls Relay team of Jaime Wheeler, Elizabeth Bradstreet-Doughty, Samantha Carter and Nicole Labrecque in the Girls 200 yard freestyle relay. Another second place went to the relay team of Jaime Wheeler, Brenna Alley, Samantha Carter and Nicole Labrecque in the Girls 200 yard medley relay. The Boys Relay team of Karl Alamo, Vincente Haro, Chris Groning and Austin Crocker won second place in the boys 200 yard medley relay.
Individual second places went to Austin Crocker in the boys 200 yard freestyle, Chris Groning in the boys 50 yard freestyle, Nicole Labrecque in the girls 100 yard freestyle and 100 yard breaststroke, Vincente Haro in the boys 100 yard breaststroke, Karl Alamo in the boys 100 yard backstroke and Brenna Alley in the girls 100 yard backstroke.
Third place wins went to the Boys Relay team of Karl Alamo, Vincente Haro, Chris Groning and Austin Crocker in the Boys 200 yard freestyle relay. The girls relay team of Jaime Wheeler, Elizabeth Bradstreet-Doughty, Brenna Alley and Chelsea Graves took third in the girls 400 yard freestyle.
Individual third-place wins went to Chelsea Graves in the girls 200 yard freestyle, Brenna Alley in the girls 200 yard IM, Karl Alamo in the boys 200 yard IM, Austin Crocker in the Boys 100 yard freestyle and Samantha Carter in the girls 100 yard breaststroke.
Despite not getting any first-place wins, Coach Linda Strout was still enthusiastic about the teams performance.
“The meet went great,” Strout said. “Swimming is in many ways an individual sport, with every swimmer competing against themselves to beat their best time and qualify for the state meet.”
The Seahawks and Eagles next game is against the Erskine Academy Eagles on January 31 at home.
