MaineCF grants will strengthen Lincoln and Sagadahoc communities

More than $137K will support regional organizations, projects

    More than $137,000 in Maine Community Foundation (MaineCF) grants will help strengthen nonprofit organizations and projects in Lincoln and Sagadahoc counties. MaineCF’s Southern Midcoast Grantmaking Committee awarded $130,120 to 15 regional organizations through the foundation’s Community Building Grant Program. MaineCF donors with advised funds made three additional grants totaling $7,500. 

    2024 grants from the Southern Midcoast Committee to Lincoln County organizations:  

    • Boothbay Region Historical Society, general support, to provide diverse learning opportunities on the Boothbay region’s history: $10,000  

    • Boothbay Region Community Resource Council, general support, to use technology to help older people remain in their homes: $7,000  

    • Boothbay Sea and Science Center, general support, to actively engage children and adults in hands-on experiential programs that further ocean literacy, promote environmental stewardship and embrace general wellbeing: $10,000  

    • Bruun Studios, general support, to help individuals share their stories and connect with each other through art workshops and events: $2,490  

    • Central Lincoln County YMCA, project support, to reach new, rural school communities through its food education program that teaches the value and joy of growing, preparing and eating nutritious, local foods: $10,000  

    • Community Housing Improvement Project (CHIP), general support, to engage community volunteers in making neighbors' homes safe, warm and dry by providing repairs for those who cannot otherwise afford them: $10,000  

    • Hearty Roots, general support, to help kids get outside all year to become good stewards of the land and their physical and mental health: $10,000  

    • Lincoln Academy, project support, to repurpose learning spaces and establish the Midcoast Workshop at Lincoln Academy as a center for multi-generational learning with emphasis on marine resources: $10,000  

    • LincolnHealth, project support, for a new school health center at Wiscasset Middle High School: $10,000 
       
    • Twin Villages Foodbank Farm, general support, to provide 80,000 pounds of fresh food for neighbors who need it most: $10,000  

    • Wiscasset Waterville & Farmington Railway Museum, general support, to reconstruct an accessible station platform to provide access for visitors of all ages and abilities: $10,000

    The Lincoln County Fund, established in 2014, and the Sagadahoc County Fund, established in 2019, are permanent endowments that support projects and nonprofit organizations that strengthen communities. Proposals are submitted through MaineCF’s Community Building Grant Program, the foundation’s largest, and reviewed by the Southern Midcoast Grantmaking Committee, comprising local community members from both counties.
