‘The Marvelous Wonderettes’ at BRHS this weekend
The Boothbay Region High School Drama Club will present the 60-minute, four-woman jukebox musical, “The Marvelous Wonderettes” Friday, Nov. 19 and Saturday, Nov. 20 in the high school auditorium.
Playing the Marvelous Wonderettes are Rachel Barter, Grace Campbell, Skyla Carrier and Marissa Davison. Drama Club teacher Mary Miller said the show was a perfect choice for a small cast. “I chose this play specifically for these girls – and they love it,” Miller said. “They have had lots of fun learning the music, especially the 50s songs.”
Audience members will take a seat in the BRHS auditorium, but when the lights come up, they will be transported to the year 1958 at Springfield High School’s senior prom with the theme, Wondrous Dreams. Tunes will include “Mr. Sandman,” “Lollipop,” “Dream Lover,” and “Goodnight Sweetheart, Goodnight.”
But all is not sunshine, love and happiness ... Betty Jean and Cindy Lou start fighting over a boy; Missy and Suzi already have beaus and delight in singing about the subject of love. But who will win the title, and crown as “Queen of Your Dreams?”
Act two is the 10-year reunion. After a short time in Hollywood, Cindy Lou returned to her hometown, which is also where her three besties still live. What’s love got to do with anything? The song list can answer that question, here are a few of the tunes: “I Only Want To Be With You,” “Son of a Preacher Man,” “It’s My Party,” “Rescue Me,” Leader of the Pack,” “You Don’t Own Me” and “Respect.”
