New program encourages kids to read
How do you get kids interested in reading?
CLICK (Connecting Lively Imaginative Creative Kids), a collaborative effort of the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library and the Opera House, has come up with an idea they hope will catch on.
That idea is Books to Screen. At the beginning of each month, children would be given a book to take home and read. The book would have a corresponding movie that would be shown the last Friday of each month.
The CLICK committee has decided to target kids ages six to 12 and their first book is “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” by Roald Dahl.
Thanks to the Knickerbocker Group who have sponsored this first month of October, children can pick up their books the first Tuesday of the month, October 2, then come see the movie at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 26.
CLICK is looking for other businesses that would be willing to sponsor a month. The $200 donation would buy 15 to 20 paperback books, the movie, an audio book and help pay for the year’s movie licensing. If you would like to help with a month’s sponsorship, please call the library at 633-3112.
The benefits for each business sponsor include advertising on Facebook and the library website. Also, the business name would be printed on a book placard that would be placed in the front of each book.
If you would like to participate in the Books to Screen program, sign up soon by calling the library or by emailing Barb House at barbh@bmpl.lib.me.us.
