News and notes from the Community Center
It’s now Friday, just before the Memorial Day weekend. I hate to be the bearer of wet news, but next week will benefit all our flowers, vegetables, and certainly contribute to a taller lawn during “No Mow May.” Would someone please explain to me why we’re not supposed to mow lawns in May? My yard looks like a hayfield, even though I have mowed a couple of times anyway!
We have begun our new season of our Lobster Raffle! A chance to win 10 Maine Lobsters which Atlantic Edge Lobster will donate. Yum! Think: a chance to win 10 lobsters for $15 for one ticket or $30 for 3 tickets! Raffle tickets are available here at The Community Center during our hours of operations – 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday thru Friday and also at the Farmers Market on the Common on Thursday mornings. Look for us in the gazebo! We will hold the drawing for the Lobsters on July 2, at the Pie/Cake Bake Sale (see below).
We are also starting a new project in June – Fill the New Red Wagon with groceries for the Community Fridge! The Red Wagon will be outside The Community Center, Monday through Friday. Please feel free to contribute any food or pantry item for those in need. We will put up flyers with desired items (from dairy products to deli meat, fruits, cereal, pasta, paper products, etc.) or you can go to the Community Resource Council website for suggestions, https://www.crcboothbay.org/community-fridge. Please do not leave any perishable items in the Red Wagon after 2 on Fridays.
Sneak Preview: On July 2, The Community Center will hold a fundraising Pie/Cake Bake Sale outside in the parking lot of the Meadow Mall. We plan on having many pies, cakes, fudge, and other sweets available for sale. All proceeds will benefit The Community Center. Calories are nonexistent on July 2. I’m sure you will all have too many guests to feed over the 4th of July weekend, so this is a great time to stock up, and you will not have to clean up your kitchen!
And one last item: While we love to receive your donations to our Durable Medical Equipment, we’d really appreciate a call from you in advance if you need to make a medical equipment donation while we are not open. 633-9876.
