Oak Hill edges Boothbay 3-2
The Oak Hill Raiders held off the surging Boothbay Region Seahawks in the final quarter to secure their 3-2 win on Perkins Field, BRHS on Tuesday, Sept. 5. It was the opening game of season for both teams.
After falling behind 3-1, Boothbay played stronger in the second half, controlling the ball and getting scoring opportunities. However, a couple of solid shots in the fourth quarter were deflected by the Oak Hill goalie, Sierra Lane, stopping Boothbay from tying the game.
The visitors took a 1-0 lead in the first quarter, as Madalyn Sikora scored at the 7:51 mark.
Boothbay tied the game early in the second quarter when Sarah Kreft received a nice centering pass from Magen Burge and scored on an open goal at the 13:58 mark.
A goal by Grace Behne and a second goal by Sikora later in the second quarter gave Oak Hill the 3-1 lead after 30 minutes of play.
After a scoreless third quarter, Burge brought Boothbay to within a goal, scoring with 7:37 to play. Boothbay’s defense held Oak Hill to no shots the rest of the game and the Seahawks mounted a few offensive threats but came up empty when trying to even the score.
Oak Hill had 15 shots on goal and Boothbay had 12.
The Raiders had eight penalty corners and the Seahawks had three.
Boothbay will host Winthrop/Maranacook (1-0) on Monday, Sept. 11 at 4 p.m.
