Ocean Point Column: Lots of events
Ocean Point continues to be very busy as all events held last week were well attended. There are many to thank for their success. Thanks to Sarah Dawson who led the kids Bingo night last Tuesday, the kids always have a great time with this.
On Thursday evening we were all treated to some history of Ocean Point that was organized by the History Committee and featured John Waldman as the guest speaker. John was very entertaining while recalling his childhood growing up at Ocean Point. Some of his recollections included Norman Van Horn, Ocean Point’s earliest residents and families, his assisting in delivering mail, all of the activities that occurred at the Casino back in the day, the Ocean Point store and some famous visitors to Ocean Point. He also spoke of what Boothbay and East Boothbay were like, some of the businesses, the bowling alley and the Opera House.
Thank you to Jeff Slayton who took on the role of interviewer and to all who attended.
The goal of the History Committee is to preserve the history and the documents for our future generations. In order to accomplish this the committee is seeking technical support from 1 or 2 individuals who can scan documents and decide how best to store these. Please contact Ann Hussey Hogaboom if you are able to assist in this important work.
Friday’s Bake Sale was successful due to the capable leadership of Ginna Yerrall and Barb Slayton. Thank you to the volunteers Ginny Rush, Lisa Rush, Maureen Bennett, Carol May and Dillon Driscoll.

Many Ocean Pointers gathered at the chapel on Saturday to celebrate the life of our beloved resident Leslie Whitehouse. Our Ocean Point resident Rev. Charles Carrick conducted the moving and at times emotional service. Family members including her husband Lanny, sons Jim and Matt daughter in law Kelly and grandchildren Logan and Hannah gave touching accounts of Leslie’s life as a wife, mother, grandmother, friend and teacher and her love for Ocean Point and its people.
The Brown/Plummer families hosted our first grill of the season this past Sunday. They served up some tasty burgers and hot dogs along with some delicious side dishes.
