Ocean Point Column: Meeting up with friends

Tue, 12/12/2023 - 2:45pm

It’s amazing how quickly the holidays sneak up on us. It seems as though we just celebrated Thanksgiving and now we are in the middle of the busy December holiday season celebrating Chanukah, Christmas and Kwanza.

Our Christmas celebration always begins with a quick trip to Boothbay to shop and support the local businesses. Our departure last Saturday was relatively early with an abundance of blue sky and mild temperatures. Luckily the ride was uneventful with little or no traffic; sometimes this is not the case especially in the summer, as many of you know.

When we passed through Portland we were quite surprised to see snow along the sides of the road and we continued to see signs of snow until we reached Edgecomb. Ocean Point did not have snow as far as we know, at least there were no traces but the temperatures were unseasonably mild. I am happy to report that Ocean Point was beautiful and quite peaceful.

We were fortunate enough to meet many Ocean Pointers during our quick trip. It was great to catch up with Sue Taylor, Cookie Dana, Julie Brown, Jack and Marilyn Heise and Meagan and Andy Hamblett.

Congratulations to Cookie and Robert Dana on the birth of their third grandchild. Jack Dana Finch was born Nov. 13 to Jen and Dave Finch weighing 8 pounds and 22 ounces. Congratulations as well to big brother James and sister Elizabeth. I understand all are doing quite well.

Congratulations to Melanie Slayton and Danny Rodden on their recent engagement. Melanie is the daughter of Jeff and Barb Slayton and granddaughter of the late Phil and Jean Slayton. An October 2024 wedding is planned. Jeff and Barb’s son Michael and his fiancé Elizabeth Dana will be married in August.

Jeff and Barb recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary with a trip to Japan and thereby completing Barb’s bucket list of visiting all seven continents. She’s also visited all 50 states! Congratulations.

I hope your holidays are filled with joy celebrating with family and loved ones.

Have a great week!
