Ocean Point Column: Such great weather!
The weather continues to be a major topic of conversation here. Many (including myself) have always thought September to be the best month of the season and this year is no exception. Following the meteorologists it appears it will continue at least for this week.
Many boats still remain on moorings and are a sign of our ongoing great weather; boat owners are continuing to enjoy being on the water.
Due to the lack of rain there is a concern for some who are on wells.
The meteorologists all seem to agree that we are not in drought, however, despite loving day after day of sun and warmth we certainly could use a good rainy day soon.
Thanks to Peter and Patty Gardiner we were all treated to one last porch party on their lawn last Saturday evening with many in attendance to indulge in great food and conversation, and of course perfect weather. Thank you Peter and Patty.
I enjoy attending these gatherings as I am able to catch up with Ocean Point friends I haven’t seen and collect all kinds of information that I may not have otherwise known. Last week I reported on the Johnson wedding and what I learned Saturday evening was that Allen Johnson, grandfather of the bride, officiated over the wedding ceremony and his grandfather married he and Sally, very special indeed.
Congratulations to Dick and Carol Palmer who celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on September 12. Dick and Carol spent their special day with family at the Alna Store enjoying what Dick described as a great meal. I know many have raved about the food there this summer. Many continued happy years together Dick and Carol.
Congratulations to Pat Landurand who recently celebrated a milestone birthday, Happy Birthday Pat.
In last week’s column I mentioned the beautiful giclee print of three trees painted by Jean Larkin and I wanted to mention it again as it is truly a stunning print and would be a pleasant reminder to every one of happy days spent there. Contact Jean at gblarkin27@gmail.com for further information.
Two local business owners were finalists in the Down East Magazine’s Best of Maine recently. Congratulations to Eric Marden of Marden Builders and Liz Evans from the East Boothbay General Store. Congratulations to all of the Boothbay businesses who were also mentioned as finalists.
I do hope you continue to enjoy the beautiful weather. Have a great week!
