Ocean Point Column: Upcoming events
As I’m writing the column Sunday afternoon we are experiencing quite a contrast in the weather. Earlier in the week temperatures soared to 90+ and for the past several days temperatures are quite cool with considerable rainfall.
As each day passes Ocean Point is coming to life with residents returning for the season, opening cottages and tying up boats to their moorings.
Abby and Tim Mahoney plan on arriving on Monday June 24 to assume their duties as AD and Kate Lindley will join them as Assistant AD, welcome back. The activities season is fast approaching and will officially kick off on Monday July 1 with a presentation by one of Ocean Point’s newest residents, Tom Cotter. Tom will speak about antique cars and his presentation will begin at 7 p.m. at the Casino.
There is an Ice Cream Social on Wednesday, July 3 at 7 p.m. and a Porch Party with entertainment on Friday, July 5 at 5 p.m., please bring your drink of choice and an appetizer to share. Earlier in the day a Town Hall meeting will take place at 10 a.m.
Our Horribles Parade will step off promptly at 9:30 a.m. from Grimes Cove on Saturday, July 6 and don’t forget to register for the OP 5k. The race will be held on Sunday, July 7 beginning at 8 a.m. with the kids’ Fun Run followed by the 5k at 8:30. Race Directors Stephanie Kaler and Kelly Robbins have placed reminders all around the Point.
The usual weekly activities pickleball, Zumba, Yoga and tennis will begin the week of July 1 as well. Please refer to the activities calendar which can be found on the OPCT website and at the Casino.
Thank you to Ginna Yerrall and the Activities Committee for all of their efforts in making this a banner summer of activities for all to enjoy!
It is with great sadness that I share the news of the passing of a beloved Ocean Pointer Doreen Dun. As of this writing I am unaware of any details of a service however I do want to extend sincere condolences to Doreen’s family; her son Alec and his wife Kelly and daughter Catherine and her husband Hugh and grandchildren Mallie, Liam, James, Linnea and Julia.
Windjammer Days began Sunday, June 23 and will run through to June 29. Many fun activities have been planned for the week so I hope you will attend and enjoy as many as possible.
Have a great week!
