Pearce and Case qualify for state meet
Emma Pearce and Evy Case both qualified for states at the Jan. 19 swim meet against Mt. Ararat. Pearce qualified in the 500-yard freestyle and Case in the 100-yard backstroke.
Pearce and Case both took firsts in their events. Case also took first in the 200-yard IM, which she had previously qualified for. Coming in second was Pearce in the 200-yard IM, thirds went to the girls’ 200-yard medley relay team and Samantha Carter in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Fifth places went to Molly Thibault in the 200-yard freestyle, Carter in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyles, and the 200-yard freestyle relay team. Genevieve Taylor took sixth in two events, the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyles.
At their meet Jan. 22 against Winslow, there were no new state qualifying times. Case got first in the 200-yard IM. Seconds went to Pearce in the 500-yard freestyle and the 200-yard freestyle relay team. Third places went to the girls 200-yard medley relay team and Pearce in the 50-yard freestyle.
Case got fourth in the 100-yard freestyle, as did Carter in the 100-yard breaststroke and Taylor in the 200-yard freestyle. Fifth places went to Taylor in the 200-yard freestyle, Thibault in the 100-yard freestyle, and Carter in the 200-yard IM. The seahawks also scored one sixth place, Thibault in the 50-yard freestyle.
The Seahawks are approaching the end of their season, with only one remaining meet before states. Though they were a small team this year, Coach Don Strout said they did very well and that he was hopeful for renewed interest in the years to come.
