Pearson hired as new staff reporter
Corinna native Bill Pearson has been hired as a staff reporter for the Boothbay Register and Wiscasset Newspaper. He covers the towns of Boothbay and Edgecomb, Boothbay Harbor Police Department, sports, spot news and other topics.
He previously worked for weekly newspapers in Calais, Newport, Dover-Foxcroft and Ellsworth. In 2012, Pearson won first place in the Maine Press Association’s Better Newspaper Competition for his feature photo. Pearson covered a June 2011 balloon launch in Dexter promoting domestic violence awareness. He has also received several other MPA mentions for his sports, education and feature writing.
Pearson believes his experience and education will serve him well covering the Boothbay region.
“June 2011 was definitely an interesting time. I was working on a noon deadline when I found out a town manager resigned and a kindergarten teacher and her two school-aged children were found dead,” Pearson said. “I’ve learned that each day presents its own set of challenges and to be ready for whatever comes next.”
Pearson graduated from Nokomis Regional High School in Newport. He also received a journalism degree from the University of Maine. He served one term on the SAD 48 board of directors. His hobbies include playing tennis, officiating soccer, baseball and basketball and watching the New England Patriots.
“We’re glad to have Bill join our staff,” Editor Kevin Burnham said. “He has fit in well during the first week and we are looking forward to working with him.”
