The Boothbay Region High School Seahawks basketball team’s bid at a huge comeback fell just short on Friday, Jan. 24 a at Spruce Mountain as the Phoenix held for a 66-64 victory, giving the Seahawks team its second loss of the season against 13 wins.

The Boothbay boys never led in the game and were down 17 points late in the third period before mounting a furious comeback that brought them to within one point with 19 seconds left in the game on a three-pointer by John Hepburn.

A turnover seconds later gave the Seahawks an opportunity to steal victory from defeat, but a missed layup with just seconds left on the clock failed to fall, allowing the Phoenix to avenge an earlier loss at the hands of Boothbay.

The Class B Phoenix were led by Deonte Ring with 26 points while John Hepburn led the Seahawks with 19 points. Evan Hepburn finished with 13 points and Nick Kilgus added 12 points.
