Ramblers rock Seahawks
The Winthrop Ramblers were able to ride a strong pitching performance to a 12-0 victory over the Boothbay Region High School boys varsity baseball team May 1.
Winthrop (4-0) had a strong pitching performance from Matt Sekerak, who fanned 10 over five innings for the shut-out. The righty didn't allow a hit until the bottom of the fifth inning, when Killian Miller ripped a one-out single.
The Seahawks (0-5) sent lefty Brad Drummond to the hill, but Winthrop was able to take advantage of Seahawk miscues to take an early lead.
Winthrop received three walks in the first inning and parlayed two of those walks, along with three errors, to manufacture four runs. The second inning saw the bats come alive for the Ramblers, who cranked six hits to pick up another four runs in the second inning.
Winthrop rattled off another four hits for three runs in the third inning and one run in the fourth.
