Re: Joe’s Journal
Dear Editor:
For over 40 years of coming to the Boothbay Harbor/Edgecomb communities, usually the first rule of thumb is to pick up a copy of the Boothbay Register. Then a quick turn of the pages to catch up on local quirks and news to read Joe’s Journal.
Joe and I may more agree to disagree on my political issues.
Should I ever sit down and share a cup of java with Joe, I think it would soon be apparent that those of us of our generation, most can sit and have a civil conversation while those much younger just thrust a phone to your face to point out several links that supposedly prove them correct. Then, as a last resort, just smile and know you are right and they are wrong.
So while I wait for Joe to likely comment on the recent Biden-Trump debate (where we will likely disagree), just a few comments on Joe’s column of June 20.
FDR once was to have said, “As Maine goes, so goes Vermont.” As far as Joe commenting on your local postal woes, I would have to agree! We in Vermont stand shoulder to shoulder with the postal plight in East Boothbay.
Last summer, Vermont experienced severe flooding and to this date a year later, there is still no fully open and operational post office in Vermont’s capital of Montpelier.
Perhaps President Reagan said it even better. The nine most feared words: “I’m from the government and I’m here to help.”
God help us in November!
