Reserve your spot for the winter reunion
You know it’s winding down when Day Afloat is on the schedule. This traditional treasure hunt at sea draws large numbers of members and friends to the water and boats of all sizes and descriptions participated. The largest crew was the committee chaired by Marylinda Rapelye and ably assisted by a cast of thousands including Margaret Schutrumpf and Sharma Shacknow. The Committee toured the playing field in the classic Boothbay Harbor ferry Nellie G II which George McEvoy kindly loaned us for the event and which Rear Commodore Greg Muzzy skippered ably assisted by Bob Scribner.
From the far reaches of Linekin Bay to around Dogfish Head and up into Sawyer’s Island Territory 32, treasures were squirreled away on members docks and the task was to find and identify all. The Melinda B, owned by Bob and Melinda Welter, along with their crew took top honors. Second most correct identifications were by John and Peggy Chapman and their crew and third place was captured by Carl Morin and Annie Hughes in their brand new old Jonesport Beals lobster yacht, Annie L.
First to the dock award was won by Mike Sherwood and his crew and special honors were bestowed on Susan Forsyth who single handedly covered the whole litany of locations. A fabulous prime rib dinner followed the event and dancing to a disk jockey’s tunes rounded out the season’s major social events with extreme kudos.
Where were you on Friday night last, Bruce Tindal? Your name was drawn in the Free Friday Festival and had you been there, you would have won a $500 dinner chit certificate. Never you mind however as this week the game is up to $550 and as always you have to be there to win!
Last launch service of the season is Friday, Saturday, and Sunday this weekend from 0900 to 1700 each day. Hard to believe that the summer has flown by again. The dining room is open this weekend but is closed Monday and Tuesday and open again Wednesday through Sunday closing Sunday night, Sept. 15 with the decommissioning buffet.
The deadline for reserving space at the Winter Reunion is fast approaching. Paul and Sharma Shacknow are taking reservations for the overnight event at the PGA facility n West Palm Beach and Andy and Louise Holmes are handling the cruise on Legend of the Seas, a 10-day trip to the glorious Southern Caribbean. The cruise portion is a benefit for the Junior Program Foundation with all proceeds being donated to that entity.
Staterooms reserved on the ship can only be held one more week so reservations need to be made immediately. Cruise brochures and trip outlines are available online through the club website and printed versions can be picked up at the club front desk.
