‘Round Town Picks: Week of October 6
It’s the first full week of October and fall is here to stay awhile. With the leaves turning, this is the perfect time to get out of doors (and we’ve got the goods on where to go and what to do).
Spend a leisurely Sunday driving the back roads and enjoying the foliage. If you desperately need a destination, try apple picking or pumpkin patching.
The week gears up Monday, Oct. 7 with open office hours to discuss the proposed tax increment financing district (no appointments are necessary). Town manager Jim Chaousis will be at the town office to answer your questions from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Let’s hope he gets a lunch break!
Speaking of serious subjects, this week is a fine time to learn more about the warning signs of domestic violence, since it’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month. You may just be surprised what the term includes. There is help out there, so talk to your friends and family. Raise awareness.
Wednesday, Oct. 9 marks the first public hearing on the TIF district in Boothbay (and that’s at the town office at 7 p.m.)
What does a moose do on the weekend? Well, he probably stops by and visits with Maine humor icon Ida LeClair. Friday, Oct. 11 you can meet LeClair (and her creator Susan Poulin) at the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library. Then, jog on down to the Opera House at Boothbay Harbor for what promises to be a fun night of indie-folk music from budding talents Seth Glier and Antje Duvekot.
On Saturday, Oct. 12, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens will host horticulturist Diane Walden for a workshop on making plant-based decor for fall/Halloween. They call it a “Harrowing Harvest Folk” workshop. Sounds fun!
New this week: Send a photo of you and your friends or family on your favorite excursion of the week to nicolelyons@boothbayregister.com. You could wind up featured on next week’s ‘Round Town Picks!
