Seahawks compete at first track meet
Despite running the 4x400 meter relay with only headlights shining from the parking lot, Boothbay's Seahawk track team made a presence with all around performances from both boys and girls at Wiscasset High School on April 11.
The Boothbay boys finished second out of six teams, and the girls finished fourth out of five teams. Out of a roster of 50 athletes, half of them scored points for Boothbay.
For first place finishers, the boys 4x800 relay team took top honors, featuring runners Alex Owen, Benn Scully, Robert Campbell and Matt Burnham. Individual first place scorers were Hannah Morley; (1600 meter), Benn Scully; (800 meter), Sophia Thayer; (3200 meter) and Jessie Vander; (shot put).
With just one meet in the books, Morgan Crocker; (triple jump, 300 meter hurdles), Kade Smith; (1600 meter racewalk) and Jessie Vander (shot put) automatically qualified for the state championship meet.
The track and field team will continue to use its spring break to improve on their training before competing at Wiscasset again on April 23 at 3:45 p.m.
