Seahawks crushed by Raiders
Penalties and turnovers haunted the Boothbay Region High School Seahawks on October 12 as the host Oak Hill Raiders rolled to a 40-6 victory at Wales.
The Seahawks stopped Oak Hill on its first possession but the Raiders ran the ball exclusively the second time they got their hands on the ball as they marched 63 yards with fullback Kyle Flaherty scoring from nine yards out with 2:18 to play in the first quarter.
A mishandled kick gave the Seahawks horrible field position resulting in a punt from deep in their own territory. A personal foul by Boothbay on the Oak Hill return led to another Raider touchdown as they went just 13 yards in two plays with Flaherty scoring again to go up 14-0 after the second successful kick by Adam Merrill.
A fumbled bad pitch by the Seahawks gave the Raiders a short field again leading to a 12-yard touchdown run by Alex Mace with 11:09 to play in the first half. Julian Aponte appeared to have gotten the Seahawks on the board by returning the ensuing kickoff the distance but a holding penalty negated the touchdown.
Jason Maddocks scored the only points for the Seahawks with a four-yard run in the third quarter.
With the team’s record now at 3-3, things don't get any easier for the Seahawks as they host Winthrop-Monmouth on Friday night.
