Seahawks dominate LA 10-0 in field hockey scrimmage
After losing its first pre-season scrimmage at home Aug. 24, 9-0 to Oceanside, the Boothbay Region High School field hockey team bounced back with a dominating performance at Lincoln Academy Monday, Aug. 28 with a 10-0 win over the Eagles.
Boothbay got scoring from several players and the team’s defense kept the Eagles from getting only a few shots on goal.
The Seahawks’ season opener, scheduled for Aug. 31, was postponed on Tuesday with make-up date to be announced.
Second-year coach Skyler Davis has a solid senior-laden team, including co-captains Kari Blake and Charlee Fuchswanz. Other seniors include Ariel Alamo, Avery Barter, Sarah Kreft, Meg Sledge and first-time player Natalie Mayotte.
Other returning players are juniors Abbie Clark, Lily Nein, Magen Burge and Ivory Cody, and sophomores Cass Amaral, Rose Campbell, Tatum French, Abby Orchard, Ella Watts, Sophie White and newcomer Bailey Lewis.
“Lewis and Mayotte are great additions to our team this season,” said Davis.
“Our strengths are definitely the senior experience with young talent. They all get along very well and work well together, which is a plus. They are very good with their positioning and stick work. I am very excited to see what they bring to the plate this season,” said Davis.
Davis said the team’s weakness is “at times, holding our own with endurance in the second half and not getting down on ourselves. Tonight's win was definitely a confidence boost I think they needed!”
