Seahawks dominate at UMA
The Seahawks cross country teams traveled to the University of Maine at Augusta Sept. 5 to face off against Winthrop, Hall-Dale, Lisbon and Oak Hill high schools and Monmouth Academy. The boys team placed first out of five teams crushing runner-up Lisbon by 29 points. With enough runners to put points on the board for this meet, the Boothbay-Wiscasset girls team placed second out of four teams.
Coach Nick Scott said all the runners showed toughness in the heat and the hilly terrain.
“Both factored into a rather harsh environment for finishing times,” Scott said.
For the second straight meet, Faith and Glory Blethen took first and second place. Their times were 22:35 and 23:02. Delly Clarkson and Grace Campbell placed 20th and 22nd in 33:20 and 33:41 and Wiscasset athletes Lily Yeaton and Maria West finished 27th and 28th in 34:56 and 35:04.
Will Perkins, Mason Erhard, Graham Harris and Fox Elder took four of the top five spots – placing second through fifth – with respective times of 19:37, 20:29, 20:41 and 20:45. Ryan Russell took 10th in 22:08; Will LaBrecque, 16th, 22:49; Lucas Hardwick, 26th, 24:19; Nathan Chatterton, 32nd, 25:07; Nate Gilliam, 35th, 25:21; Gavin Carleson, 37th, 26:33; and Quinn Ranta, 38th, 26:52.
“Congratulations to the boys … and to the girls,” said Scott. “It was also great to have the Wiscasset runners score as part of our team.”
The venue for the Wednesday, Sept. 12 meet has changed to Medomak High School. The Seahawks will face Telstar, Dirigo, Mount Valley, Carrabec and Richmond high schools and Monmouth Academy.
