Seahawks fall to Greyhounds in overtime
The Friday, Sept. 28 match was a pileup of bad luck for the Seahawks. After one Greyhound earned a red card for unsportsmanlike conduct, the visitors continued playing 11 athletes on the field. This resulted in a goal for the Greyhounds and a halftime lead of 3-2.
Seahawks Coach Matt Brewer said he had not noticed the 11th Greyhound on the field and by the time he did, it was too late.
“I called this to the refs' attention before the kickoff, after the goal, and they took a player off, but said there wasn't anything they could do,” said Brewer. “I am furious about this.”
Reagan Cola had the two goals in the first half and another in the second half. Hannah Cola scored on a beautifully executed penalty kick, which put the Seahawks ahead, 4-3, but the Greyhounds tied the game before the end. A little over halfway into the first overtime period, the Greyhounds took the win on a free kick from 25 yards out.
Said Brewer, “It was a heart-breaker. The girls showed an incredible amount of toughness and deserved to win ... It was a tough way to lose, but the girls played tough and should be very proud.”
