Seahawks fall to Roadrunners
The Seahawks girls soccer team fell to the Mt. Abram High School Roadrunners Oct. 4, 7-1, on Sherman Field.
The Seahawks made their first and only goal in the first few minutes of the match when Reagan Cola crossed the ball to Olivia Paolillo and the Roadrunners' defense put the ball in their own net.
After tying the score 1-1, a cross from one Roadrunner to another put the ball into the box allowing a header straight into the net. Thereon out, the Roadrunners rallied through the half and to the end of the match for a total of seven goals.
“We came out well and we tend to play well on this field and I thought that we were going to continue to do that ... (but) that seemed to take a lot of wind out of our sails,” Coach Matt Brewer said about the first two goals. “Sometimes we get caught ball-watching and I think that's what happened there.”
Brewer said the Seahawks let up on defense too early in the game and subsequently lost their momentum.
“It's a bummer, but we gotta get over it, we gotta move on," said Brewer. "We still have two games left against two good teams, but two winnable games. We still control our own destiny, so I think if we can get two wins, we'll probably be in. That's been our goal the whole year, to make the playoffs.”
The Seahawks play next at Spruce Mountain High School in Jay at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9.
