Seahawks lose to Madison, 58-50
At Madison Tuesday night, Mitch Jarvais led the host Bulldogs with 14 points as Madison beat Boothbay, 58-50.
The Seahawks got off to a terrible start, and even after two time outs trailed at the end of the first quarter 20-12. Seahawks held Madison to just six points, and fought their way back to trail 26-20. Kyle Ames had 11 first half points.
The teams played even in the third quarter, but the Seahawks couldn’t overcome the seven-point Madison lead. For the game Kyle Ames was the only double figure scorer for the Seahawks. Besides Jarvais’ 14 points, Sean Whalen added 12 for the Bulldogs. Carter Babcock was the leading rebounder with nine. The Seahawks were 8 of 29 on three pointers for 27 percent and 12/25 on 2s for 48 percent.
“Madison is supposedly one of the top teams in the conference, and we stayed with them even thought we played poorly,” said Coach I.J. Pinkham via email. “We played our entire offensive game on the perimeter, and failed to attack the rim aggressively, as witnessed by our only shooting four free throws the entire game. We did the job pretty well defensively except for failing to get back in transition a number of times. Carter did a nice job defensively on Jarvais, their leading scorer. I’m encouraged by the fact that we can play with the better teams, but we’ve got some work to do.”
Madison improves to 2-0 after beating Dirigo in its first game. Boothbay drops to 1-1 after defeating Mountain Valley at home on Dec. 9.
Boothbay will next host Dirigo on Saturday, Dec. 17 at 2:30 p.m.
