Seahawks place 19th in states
The Boothbay Region High School Seahawks swim team competed in state meet on Feb. 16. Those competing included seniors Brenna Alley and Nicole LaBrecque along with freshmen Evy Case. Freshman Lincoln Hamblett also accompanied the team and swam in the relays.
Freshman Emma Pearce also qualified to go, but was unable to attend due to an injury.
The boys meet took place on Feb. 14, however the only Seahawk to qualify, Karl Alamo, was unable to go.
Twenty-six teams total took part in the meet. The combined scores of the Seahawk girls placed them 19th overall, an excellent showing for only their second year of having a team.
The relay team of Alley, Case, LaBrecque and Hamblett came in 13th out of 25 in the 200 yard medley relay and 12th out of 26 in the 200 yard freestyle relay.
Alley placed 30th out of 34 in the 200 yard freestyle and 36th out of 39 in the 100 yard backstroke.
Case placed 20th out of 35 in the 200 yard IM and 25th out of 28 in the 100 yard butterfly.
LaBrecque placed 21st out of 28 in the 100 yard butterfly and 35th out of 39 in the 100 yard backstroke.
“The team did very well,” Coach Don Strout said. “Especially in the relays. They were disappointed with some of the times, but enjoyed socializing with the other teams on deck and had a good time overall.”
