Seahawks roll past Oak Hill
The Boothbay Region High School boys varsity basketball team improved to 6-4 with a 69-57 win over the Oak Hill Raiders at Wales on Thursday, Jan. 12.
Junior guard Kyle Ames led Boothbay with 27 points, which included a new school record of making eight 3-pointers (eclipsing Dan Dickinson’s seven) on 8-of-10 shooting. Senior guard Jacob Leonard added 19 points. Senior forward Carter Babcock led the team with 11 rebounds and he scored 11 points.
Boothbay jumped out to a 25-12 first quarter lead. The teams played pretty even after that and the Seahawks had a 15-point lead going into the last quarter. Oak Hill hit four threes in the final stanza to keep it interesting.
Marcus Bailey had 14 points, Evan Boston 14 and Coler Donnell added 13 for the Raiders.
“Marcus Bailey is a very good player for them and they are a solid team,” said BRHS coach I.J. Pinkham via email. “Our zone defense was able to neutralize him and his brother Darryn, who are both 6’3". We played well the entire game, and our transition game was as good as it’s been all year. Kyle was in a zone with his threes, I don’t think he even hit the rim.”
Boothbay will play at Telstar on Saturday afternoon and host top-seeded Winthrop on Monday night.
