Seahawks in second place
The Boothbay Region Seahawks boys varsity basketball team is in second place in the Western Maine Class C Heal point standings at the holiday break. Dirigo, which edged Boothbay at home by two points to open the regular season, is in first place. In third place through eighth place, respectively, are Waynflete, Winthrop, Hall-Dale, Madison, Old Orchard Beach and Wiscasset.
Boothbay will play three of the top eight teams in the next two weeks: Wiscasset at home on January 2, Hall-Dale at home on January 9 and at Madison on January 11. Dirigo will also play the same three schools over the next two weeks – at Wiscasset (1/6) and Hall-Dale (1/10) and hosting Madison on January 13.
Whether or not there is any change in the top two spots in the standings by mid-January is anyone's guess but Boothbay and Dirigo are not scheduled to face each other again in the regular season. More than likely the two teams, which have dominated Western Maine Class C over the past six years, will face off again at the Augusta Civic Center in February.
