Seahawks sneak into playoffs

After a loss to Oak Hill, the Boothbay varsity baseball team eked out a spot in the Class D South playoffs with a win against Hall-Dale for the Seahawks’ final game of the regular season. The top eight teams in the Heal point standings make it to playoffs, and Boothbay had been stuck at ninth for several weeks. The team finished the season in eighth place with a 6-10 record. 

A playoff game is scheduled for 3 p.m. June 5 at Saint Dominic Academy in Auburn.  

May 29, Boothbay took advantage of a rematch to nab a 7-6 victory over Hall-Dale at Farmingdale. 

The Seahawks scored one run in the second and third innings, while the Bulldogs scored two. Hall-Dale scored one again in the fourth and both teams scored another in the fifth. Behind three runs, the Seahawks rallied in the seventh inning and scored four more runs to win the game.  

Maddox Cusumano and Henry Putnam scored two runs each while Sam Markowitz, Liam Jacobs and Aidric Canada each scored one. Cusumano led batting with three hits and Shawn Gamage, Jacobs, Putnam and Dominick Dow hit once each.  

Jacobs pitched most of the game delivering nine strikeouts but allowed two walks and one earned run. Canada also took the mound for less than an inning. The Seahawks struck out five times, and had four walks and two earned runs.  

Each team had five errors.  

May 27, Boothbay lost 9-7 to Oak Hill at Wales.  

The Seahawks scored six runs in the third inning and one in the fifth. The Raiders scored five runs in the third inning and four in the sixth.  

Jacobs led scoring with two runs. Gamage, Markowitz, Canada, Dow and Finn Harkins each scored one run. Jacobs had four hits while Gamage, Markowitz, Harkins and Putnam had one.  

Harkins took the mound for most of the game and threw five strikeouts. He allowed three walks and nine earned runs. Canada pitched for less than one inning with one strikeout. The Seahawks struck out 11 times and had seven earned runs, six walks and one error.
