Seahawks soar at Festival of Champions
Seahawks cross country traveled to Troy Howard Middle School in Belfast Sept. 29 for the 17th annual Festival of Champions. With three races for the girls and four for the boys, the girls place 43rd out of 58 teams and the boys 30th out of 64 teams. Including only Class C teams, the boys placed third.
Will Perkins led the Seahawks, placing 63rd with a time of 17:45.
“The finishing mark is a lifetime best for Will and is significant for a number of reasons,” said Coach Nick Scott. “First, it places him as number seven on our All Seahawk Team (and is) the third fastest junior time run in school history. Second, Will was the third Class C runner to cross the line.”
Graham Harris was next to cross the finish line at 146th in 18:37. Fox Elder, 173rd, 18:51; Mason Erhard, 251st, 19:30; Ryan Russell, 311th, 19:58; Nathan Chatterton, 410th, 20:36; Lucas Hardwick, 434th, 20:47; Will LaBrecque, 578th, 22:10; Quinn Ranta, 586th, 22:15; and Gavin Carlson, 737th, 24:28.
Faith Blethen placed 79th in 21:44; Glory Blethen, 104th, 22:14; Haley Abbott, 377th, 25:42; Grace Campbell, 413th, 26:20; Zada Smith, 500th, 28:27; and Delly Clarkson, 525th, 28:59.
Harris, Elder, Chatterton, Hardwick and Carlson from the boys team and Campbell from the girls team all shaved time off their personal records. Hardwick and Campbell took enormous chunks of 1:42 and 2:20 respectively off theirs.
"A couple of fine team performances and lots of great individual runs were turned in,” Scott said.
