Seahawks take on Oak Hill
On the strength of three victories earlier in the season, the Boothbay Region High School Seahawks football team (3-5) finished as the number seven seed in the final Western Class D standings.
On Saturday, Nov. 2, they will travel to Oak Hill to take on the Raiders for the second time this season in a quarterfinal playoff game. Back on October 12, the number two seeded Raiders (5-3) handed the Seahawks a 40-8 defeat.
The Seahawks finished up the regular season on Friday, Oct. 25 with a 46-34 loss at the hands of the Old Orchard Beach Seagulls at Sherman Field. Boothbay scored on its first three possessions and led 22-8 after a 10-yard touchdown run by Jason Maddocks late in the first quarter. Earlier, Maddocks scored on the first play from scrimmage going 76 yards right up the middle.
The Seagulls would quickly close the gap on a 34-yard touchdown run by Bryan Roberts and on the Seahawks' next possession, Roberts would scoop up a fumble and race 30 yards to pay dirt to cut the deficit to just two.
After another fumble ended the Seahawks' next try, it took OOB just one play to score and take the lead for good as Joe Gildard scored from 37 yards out with three minutes left in the first half. Gildard would then return the second half kickoff for a touchdown to give the visitors a 34-22 lead.
Julian Aponte scored on a 14-yard run in the first quarter to cap a five-play 65-yard drive that also included a 29-yard run by Jude Alamo. Maddocks added his third score of the game in the third quarter on a 15-yard scamper and the Seahawks scored again in the fourth quarter.
