Seawolves cross country gives Class A, B teams a run for their money
Boothbay Region and Wiscasset high cross country teams raced the Morse High School Quabacook Relays in Bath Sept. 10. The two-mile race pit the “Seawolves” and fellow Class C team Winthrop High School against higher class competition: Cape Elizabeth, Edward Little, Lewiston, Morse, Mt. Ararat and Mt. Blue high schools.
The boys squeaked by Winthrop for fifth place leaving Edward Little and Mt. Ararat in the dust and just eight points short of tying Lewiston. The girls came in sixth, triumphing over Lewiston and narrowly bested by Mt. Ararat.
Bryan Gagnon led the Seawolves in 17th in 15:47. Gryffin Kristan, Payton Blagdon, Ryan Clark and Rodi Mayne were all separate from one another by just seconds, but a competitive group put them in 25th, 27th, 31st and 34th respectively in 16:24, 16:29, 16:41 and 16:45. Austin Trask, Cleyton Splaine and Chase Mansfield took 44th, 64th and 89th in 17:32, 19:12 and 28:03.
Maddie Orchard and Julia Truesdell took 21st and 22nd in 20:28 and 20:36; Emily Gilliam, 33rd, 22:39; Maddie Andreasen, 54th, 27:40; and Sarah Harris, 57th, 29:09.
The team will host the season’s only home race at 4:15 p.m. Sept. 16 versus Spruce Mountain, Telstar, Dirigo, Mountain Valley, Hall-Dale and Richmond high schools.
