Seawolves snag first places at Lisbon to end regular season
The Boothbay-Wiscasset “Seawolves” cross country teams took firsts at the Oct. 7 Lisbon High School meet. The boys and girls outpaced competitors from Monmouth Academy and Forest Hills, Richmond, Winthrop, Oak Hill and Lisbon high schools. The boys stayed a comfortable 17 points ahead of Lisbon which narrowly edged Winthrop and the girls, though the only team that placed, kept their average time ahead of all but two runners from Monmouth and three from Winthrop.
For the boys, Bryan Gagnon took third in 18:57 and Gryffin Kristan fifth in 19:12. Pack runners Rodi Mayne, Ryan Clark, Austin Trask and Cleyton Splaine took 10th, 12th, 13th and 15th in 20:39, 20:58, 21:03 and 21:10. Finn Gaffney, Sawyer Blake and Ross Gaffney took 35th, 37th and 40th in 25:54, 26:40 and 30:30. Splaine and Blake beat their personal best times by 16 and 21 seconds respectively. Finn Gaffney beat his by 1:08.
The girls put up a more solitary competition with Laura Chapman taking third in 23:42; Emily Gilliam, fifth, 24:15; Julia Truesdell, sixth, 24:33; Maddie Orchard, ninth, 26:06; Sarah Harris, 15th, 31:02; Ruth Burchstead, 16th, 31:41; and Maddie Andreason, 19th, 35:06. Harris shaved 16 seconds off her personal best.
Lisbon was the last regular season meet before the Seawolves travel to the Mountain Valley Conference Class C championship Oct. 15 in Augusta.
