Seeking board members for Burnt Island
Dear Editor:
The Board of Directors of the “Keepers Of the Burnt Island Lighthouse,” or KBIL want to point out to the Boothbay Harbor Region community that Burnt Island is potentially a yet to be effectively developed resource for our community.
This gem of an Island is located just outside the inner harbor, is easily accessible and has recent and functioning infrastructure. For years, and up until COVID-19, the island was open for visits and educational programs – there is a bunkhouse/classroom on the island. COVID-19 and the retirement of the KBIL’s founder have caused the island to go largely quiet for the past few years.
A new Board of Directors is organizing to reinvigorate the island and its programs. The nature of the advertisement in this issue of the Boothbay Register is to reach out to anyone in the community who might be interested in serving on our Board. We have five directors now and seek to have eight.
If you have a passion for environmental education, history, and our maritime heritage, and can bring expertise in fundraising, educational program development, or nonprofit organization management, please contact us and discuss the possibilities.
