Seems like yesterday
The 2012 Arts and Crafts Show is behind us and we cannot fail to mention those who make this possible. Thank you to Linda Murphy for publicity, Carol Allison for the preshow wine gathering, the sailors from the afternoon program who helped with tables, chairs and assuring that the junior building was ready.
Members were on hand to help with the show on Saturday and Sunday and a big crew of big guys helped with the breakdown which was done in less than one hour. Special recognition goes to Bob Houston for handling the accounting. We appreciate the support of the artists who were willing to be part of the show and the crafters who brought their best of the best. There were many comments this year about the quality of the items both in the art gallery and the craft display area. Thank you to all for being willing to give of their time and talent to make my job easier.
It seems like only yesterday when we were welcoming the new sailors and returning sailors were renewing old acquaintances. Friday August 17 they will gather at Southport Town Hall to celebrate the summer and the accomplishments of the season. Awards will be reported in next week’s column. Some will be returning home with fond memories of their “summer in Maine” and others will stay on a bit to have a quieter pace with their families. The exceptional group of instructors will be headed off to colleges and other schools.
The weather God did not shine much on the past weekend but there was an open race on Saturday which was more of a drifting event than real sailing. The results are not in as yet. But they will certainly be available for the Commodores’ closing reception on August 25.
