Southport United Methodist Church annual Lobster Roll Lunch and Cookie Sale July 17

On Wednesday, July 17, the Southport United Methodist Women are once again holding their annual Lobster Roll Luncheon and Cookie Sale at Southport’s Town Hall, 361 Hendricks Hill Road, with seating available. At a cost of $25, the lunch consists of a lobster roll, a bag of chips, a homemade cupcake, and a choice of iced tea or lemonade. A limited number of lunches will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. or until sold out. You can pay with cash or check (checks payable to SUMW).

Cookie Sale: The Southport Church bakers have donned their chef’s hats and are already trying out recipes for this summer’s cookie extravaganza. Pre-ordered cookies are stiil only $5 per box! (A box holds around 15 cookies. ) Just fill out a pre-order form (https://tinyurl.com/SUMCcookies ) due by Sunday, July 14 at noon to reserve your top choices (like chocolate chip or specialty cookies). When you pre-order cookies, it helps bakers be sure we have enough of the flavors you want! Also, once again, on the day of the sale, there will be prepacked boxes of assorted cookies for $8 (i.e. Chocolate Lover’s Favorites or Peanut Butter Sticks Around.) There will also be small bags with a half dozen cookies of one type, such as oatmeal raisin. Last but not least, for those who prefer to choose 15 cookies themselves, there will be trays of different types of cookies to choose from 11 to 1 on July 17. ($8 per box). Note: We’ve found that cookie orders keep well in the freezer in the plastic boxes we are currently using. Your family and friends will likely appreciate a box with their name on it when they arrive! We look forward to seeing you at the Southport Town Hall on Wedneday, July 17.

The present day Southport United Methodist Women formed in 1967, yet it is an evolution which began on Nov. 23, 1899 with the formation of the first Southport women’s church group known as “The Union
Club.” Two weeks later another women’s group formed, the “Ladies Aid Society.” The two were very cooperative, not competitive, and joined forces to purchase a new organ in 1901. In 1940, the Women’s Society of Christian Service came into being and over the years, all three groups blended and became the present day UMW in 1967. Thank you for your continued participation in this annual event which enables the Southport United Methodist Women to continue their outreach work throughout the year. Our outreach work includes local, national, and international works. Our annual Mother’s and Father’s Days recognition benefits the Church World Service. Our Lobster Roll Lunch and Cookie Sale benefit local agencies such as Rebuilding Together, Set for Success, Camp Mechuwana,Lincoln County’s New Hope, the Food Pantry, and Community Fridge.
