St. Dom's edges Boothbay in OT
Hannah Braun scored her second goal of the game to give the host St. Dom's Saints a 4-3 overtime victory over the Boothbay Region Seahawks field hockey team Saturday, Sept. 26.
Braun's goal came with 3:46 remaining in the overtime period of St. Dom’s homecoming game.
Boothbay battled back from a 2-0 deficit to tie the game. Meghan Oakes scored the Seahawks’ first goal at the 5:50 mark of the first half and, according to an email from BRHS coach Donna Jordan, "Sydney Meader carried the ball 40 yards down the field, dodging five different players before pulling the goal keeper out and pushing the ball into the cage tying the game." Meader's goal came with 18:51 remaining in regulation.
Kylie Leavitt gave the Saints (6-3) the lead again with an unassisted goal at the 7:14 mark.
Boothbay tied the game with 4:29 remaining when Meader assisted on a goal by Seahawk freshman Lexi Lane.
During the overtime period, Boothbay (4-6) mounted an offensive attack that resulted in the ball hitting the goal post. Braun's winning goal came on a 2-on-1 fast break against Boothbay goalie Erica Eames. Eames finished with 13 saves and both teams had 16 shots on goal.
The Saints also won the junior varsity game, 2-0.
